My husband informed me today that he is now in the market for a 26-year old wife, and to let him know if I knew of any good candidates. Today is my last Tuesday of being 25 – and tomorrow, I’ll be of age (again) for his capricious taste. That is reassuring.
Now all we need is for Taylor Swift to write a song about feeling 26 – so I can know what to expect, and know how to prepare poor, cradle-robbed Tye, who will remain a quarter of a century until May 2015.
In the meantime, I am thankful for a happy 25th year – and for all of the festive happenings that composed this life chapter:
- Road-tripped to Hot Springs (VA) for a few days with mucky-mucks and their fancy swimsuit cover-ups, Nashville (TN) to visit my parents in their new digs and introduce Tye to touristy bars on Broadway and morbidly overpriced bedazzled cowboy boots, Charleston to try burgers with “butter lettuce” and yellow tomatoes, Tallahassee for football games & weddings and Amelia Island (FL) for Mother’s Day/birthday festivities.
- Saw Jason Aldean (before I decided to resent him for being a floozy and for birthing that awful, embarrassingly catchy burning it down song), Florida-Georgia Line, Tyler Farr and Sam Hunt in concert (perhaps we need to expand our music palate)
- Took a Bahamas cruise – my first cruise – and the boat didn’t tip over, we didn’t get scurvy or ebola or any other newsworthy ailment, we won $211 at the Blackjack table (which we promptly lost) and braved all of the slides at Atlantis.
- Threw a 5th Birthday party for Scout, complete with froyo and friends, a trip to Pet’s Mart and an attempted river swim (got in trouble from the Riverwalk rent-a-cop for having him off his leash – on his birthday. Rude)
- Ate a foot-long corn dog at the Darlington race. Lots of culture for one day.
- Bought three new vehicles – and traded three. We should be set for a while.
- Introduced Scout to snow…in South Carolina. It passed his ‘favorites’ test.
- Experienced yet another undefeated Seminoles football season – thanks to Tye’s lucky ‘Gameday shirt’ – that he faithfully wore for each and every game (you’re welcome, FSU nation)
- Decorated for Christmas – with a Christmas tree (that I can’t remember to water…ever), sent out Christmas cards – a very, married-move, and built a DIY, Pinspired pallet Christmas tree
- Bought a house – and paint, hedge clippers, a rake and various and sundry decor
Not too shabby, 2014. With a Bahamas Christmas trip in sight, a lovely best friend’s Nashville wedding in May, and a Hawaii excursion in June, 26 is looking quite promising. Though – every day is certainly an adventure with three wayward animals, and a husband who’s on the hunt for older women as often as I have birthdays. I couldn’t ask for more (well, unless it’s trips to Homegoods – or Target).
Sounds like a great year! 🙂
